Advanced Placement testing is approaching soon with the first tests beginning on May 7th.

On testing days, all students taking ‘AM’ exams that are scheduled for 8 a.m. will need to arrive by 7:45 a.m. at the latest. All ‘PM’ exams will start at 12 p.m., and students will need to eat ahead of time and report by 11:45 a.m. Students with two exams in one day will be able to eat between tests, but tests will start as close to on time as possible. Most exams will be at least 3 hours long.

AP testing, and AP courses, really, to me, are all about rigor,” MHS Counselor and AP Coordinator, Mr. Moore, said. “That is, AP testing should be the end exercise in a grueling, difficult, but hopefully fun experience, that could prove invaluable in being successful in college courses.”

On testing days, students need to bring ‘lucky pencils’, although they will be provided with plenty, and pens if needed. It is recommended to bring a snack and to wear clothing that can be flexible, based on how hot or freezing the testing room may be. Students can NOT bring electronic devices, including cell phones, into the testing room. Students should find an alternative place for their back pack.

“It can be very helpful and cost effective, if students pass exams and receive college credit,” Mr. Moore said. “We have had many students who have basically completed their freshmen year, though a combination of AP course credit and dual credit courses. This can be tremendously helpful and more affordable in the long run for students. Even if colleges don’t accept certain courses for credit, the classroom experience can be instrumental in future success.”

Students should be preparing feverishly in their classes ahead of time. Several teachers have online resources and plans for after school or Saturday or Sunday cram sessions. There is a wonderful resources on the College Board website, with released exams and prep, with practice questions: https://apstudent.collegeboard.org/takingtheexam/preparing-for-exams

AP Testing will be from May 7th through May 18th, and students should be able to check their scores over the summer on College Board with their testing codes.
